Darach Shire Meeting Minutes, April 2010
Attending: Rhieinwen, Umberto,
Alia, Catherine, Thomasina, Mayken, Albra, Alexander, Morgana, Ada, Amy,
Richard, Wilhelm, Lareej
Meeting started: 7:01 p.m.
Officers
A&S. Albra said Isles is soliciting folks to teach
them new skills at their A&S workshops; if you want to get involved, please
contact Albra. Their sewing nights are on alternate Mon and their A&S
nights are the 2nd Thu.
Chatelain. Aran was not present but sent a report. Three
people attended his persona class at Black Oak Lodge and two took handouts.
Chronicler. Rhieinwen passed out the new Shire & Friends
contact list. The June issue will be her last one. There has been a newsletter
in Darachshire for at least 26 years, and she would hate to see it end now,
especially when there are people in the Shire who can’t access the Internet.
Constable. Ismay was not present but sent a report that she
would have a final Black Oak Lodge report once she heard from Aran. Aran,
meanwhile, sent a report that he will get his report to Ismay.
Exchequer. Mattea said we have $8,119.04 in the bank or
$7,703.55 when you factor in uncashed checks and undeposited funds*. The paperwork has
been changed to reflect Alia stepping up as Exchequer and most of the files
were passed to Alia. The Shire thanked Mattea for her two years of service. [*Note: Information
provided after the meeting, so does not reflect official meeting minutes.]
Herald. Richard said there were no awards given recently
and he’d received no name or device submissions.
Lists. Thomasina said lists at Black Oak Lodge were
most chivalrous and fair. The scenarios for rapier were most diverse and
creative and fun for both the fighters and the audience (it was fun throwing
things at the fighters). The heavy was a variation on a round robin and also
fun, if a little exhausting.
Marshal. Wilhelm announced dates when armored combat
fighter practice would be cancelled due to events (see p. 1 and the calendar).
Rapier practice may occur on those dates, however. Aran has been re-authorized
in all armored combat forms (including Senior Marshal).
Quartermaster. Umberto said everything from Black Oak Lodge was
returned except the industrial plastic wrap, which Umberto and Rhieinwen
retrieved. Wilhelm still has the eric from King’s Hunt and is planning to do
some minor repairs. Morgana said we ended up with a set of the site’s measuring
spoons; Alia will mail them back.
Seneschal. Catherine said we will have two sets of royals
at Anniversary, so please write award letters.
Webwright. Wilhelm said the first page of the website is crashing;
he and Eilidh are working on it. Kingdom and Society policy is to use officer
e-mail address aliases rather than personal e-mail addresses, and we will be
moving to Kingdom-based ones. He received a slew of Order of Precedence changes
but hasn’t implemented them yet. There are new web permission forms (to allow
personal information online) and he will get those to people to be signed.
Youth Officer. Mayken
said there were no official youth activities at Black Oak Lodge since she was
unable to attend. Rhieinwen mentioned that Elizabeth of Esvere donated lovely
hand-carved wooden castle block set to the Shire, and it was well-received.
Mayken and Catherine are going to have something to present for Anniversary for
Youth, and if anyone else feels like doing something, please contact Mayken.
Youth activities are not babysitting, but providing something fun for the
younger members of the Society to do.
Guilds
Textiles Guild. Albra said they were still getting folks for Textile
nights, although the night a photographer from the Brooks Institute came (for a
story on SCA life), nobody showed up. Morgana agreed the photographer could
come to the next workshop at Mathom Grange. Textile Guild for Apr 20 is
cancelled.
Brewers Guild. Wilhelm said the meeting is a week from tonight,
and they will probably be doing a beer. The photographer is scheduled to come
to take photos and interview attendees.
Cooking Guild. Catherine said the guild is still on hiatus.
Herbal Guild. Morgana said no one attended the January or
March meetings, the February meeting was cancelled to due Estrella, and only
one person can attend the April meeting, which is now cancelled because they
have guests arriving. In May the topic will be researching perfumes. If there
isn’t more attendance over the summer, the guild will go on hiatus for a while.
Scribal Guild. Albra said the Apr date is moving from Apr 22 to
Apr 29.
Woodworking Guild. Luzia was not
present. The guild is on hiatus but you can contact her if you have a project
you want to work on.
Old
Business
Kingdom
Calendar 2011 Update. The Queen’s Champion
Equestrian dates we submitted won’t work, and she will post suggested dates
when she hears back from Kingdom. We got the dates we requested for our own
events.
New
Business
Black Oak Lodge 2010 Wrap-up (Mattea, Alia, Ismay). Mattea said they lost an
estimated $100-200. The deadline for getting your receipts in (if you want a
refund) is May 19. Alia thanked everyone for not getting sick or dying. The
Shire gave the stewards a hearty round of applause for an event well-run..
Upcoming
Events
Darach
Anniversary (Mayken), May 15.
She is asking Altavia for a volunteer to help with gate. The Shire pavilion may
not be big enough to house Their Majesties, Their Highnesses, and Their
Excellencies of Altavia, so she will ask if the Altavian pavilion can be used.
We should have enough pop-ups to cover everything else. Thomasina is handling
lists for armored combat and rapier; Mattea and Alia are running Gate. The EQ
insurance rider is going in this week. She still needs site tokens; it was
suggested just to use the donated ribbons on safety pin, and Albra is checking
her bead stash for possible donations. Ada is running the white elephant sale.
We need a chirurgeon. She will be doing a walk-through a couple of weeks before
the event, and will send invitations to those running armored combat and rapier
to set a time and date.
Pirate Tournament (Lareej), Jul 31. Lareej said she talked to
Eogan about handling rapier, and she is considering a variety of fun contests.
She will have an announcement in the June Crown Prints. Rhieinwen suggested a
Shire potluck.
Yule (Ismay), Dec 18. Ismay was not present and
didn’t send a report.
Meeting finished: 7:50 p.m.
