Shire Meeting Minutes, April 2009
Attending:
Rhieinwen, Alia, Aran, Arabella, Wilhelm, Thomasina, Elizabeth, William,
Morgana, Alexander
Meeting
started: 7:02 p.m.
Officers
A&S.
Albra was not present. Morgana reported that the scriptorium at Black Oak Lodge
went very well. Scribes are needed and there is a new system for making
promissories. (See the article on p. 7 of the newsletter.) Everyone is
encouraged to attend Pentathlon and see what the talented artisans of Caid are
producing. She reminded everyone that the Gem & Mineral show is this
weekend.
Chatelaine.
Aran turned in his quarterly report. The Kingdom Chatelaine posted to the
Chatelaine list that newcomers aren’t getting enough information at events, so
our box of Back in Time fliers should go to every event. The Silver
Key/loaner garb went to King’s Hunt and three equestrian people used it.
Chronicler.
Rhieinwen mailed four copies of the March issue and spent $8.58 photocopying
the April issue.
Constable.
William said we had an event, no one died, no one got hurt, no one got stolen,
but stuff was left behind. Contact him if you’re missing something.
Exchequer. Mattea was
was not present. Alia said the financial information was the same as last month
except for Black Oak Lodge.
Herald.
We need a herald!
Lists.
Thomasina said we had an event, there was fighting, nobody got hurt, nobody
died. There was good sportsmanship and chivalrous behavior.
Marshal.
Aran noted that Wilhelm became an authorized heavy weapons marshal at Black Oak
Lodge. Wilhelm then volunteered to be our new Marshal. Huzzah!
Quartermaster.
Rhieinwen gave a big thanks to everyone who help load up the trucks for Black
Oak Lodge and unload them again on Sunday. She and Umberto will be doing an
inventory later this month to get a final count on the consumables. She noted
that Wilhelm borrowed the Shire eric on behalf of Carreg Wen for King’s Hunt
and returned it afterwards.
Seneschal.
Elizabeth said there’s a new online reporting system for officers:
reports.sca-caid.org. She will be stepping down in July because her father is
ill. Catherine has agreed to be her deputy and will step up in July. We thank
her for her excellent service to the Shire!
Webwright.
Wilhelm said there’s no news. Elizabeth said Griffin is willing to help with
website.
Youth
Officer. Mayken was not present. Elizabeth said we had youth at
Black Oak Lodge but had no official activities. Richard and Pierre helped, and
there was coloring, story telling, and running amok.
Guilds
Textiles
Guild. Morgana read Albra’s report. (See A&S.)
Brewers
Guild. Wilhelm said there will be a meeting this month but he
wasn’t sure where. They will be drinking—er, tasting past projects. Aran
said if people want his brandyfine lemonade recipe, just ask. The Kingdom’s
Brewers Guild had a brew day; Aran’s lemonade was the first of three batches he
needs for advancement in the guild. Now he has a mead recipe to try. There was
a cordial contest at Black Oak Lodge with three entries. Aran’s brandyfine
lemonade won. Someone also brought a beer and scored well.
Herbal
Guild. Morgana reported that there was a meeting on March 19
with two attending. They researched herbal cheeses and decided on a recipe for
cheese spread to start. On the following Saturday, she and Rhieinwen did some
herbal planting and made cheese spread and it was fabulous. We believe the herb
blend used is period. The next meeting is April 16.
Woodworking
Guild. Luzia was not present.
Old
Business
Update
on Aran’s Fire Relief Fund Challenge. The scroll listed $649, but there
were some last-minute donations for a total of $670. The scroll will go to
Lance and Carla.
Shire
PO Box. Elizabeth hasn’t gotten the box yet. Will put Catherine
on as key holder.
Black
Oak Lodge Wrap-up. See the article on p. 4 of the
newsletter.
New
Business
New
Reporting Process for Shire Officers. Use the online form at
reports.sca-caid.org.
Lighting
for Royal Encampment. Aran been reimbursed for the
lantern and stand we presented at Black Oak Lodge. William has added a ring so
the lantern hangs properly. Does the Shire want to order another one? The
consensus was that we don’t want to purchase another.
Shire
Meeting Location Change. We can’t use the Bunnin facility
any longer. Thomasina and Mattea both offered classrooms. We voted to use
Thomasina’s classroom if it’s available; if not, we approved the $120-$170/year
for the Oxnard Library as long as they meet our requirements.
Upcoming
Events
Camarillo
Celtic Faire Demo (May 2–3). Her Highness decided to
hold Queen’s Equestrian Championship on May 2, which conflicts with the demo.
(Sigh.) Note: If you get to the demo early, you can drive out onto the grass to
unload. There will be security Saturday night so you can leave things on site.
Pirate-versary/Altavia-Darach Equestrian Championship (May 30). Arabella and Elizabeth are running the event,
although Arabella is training minions. The event will be held at the Conejo
Valley Equestrian site. See p. 3 of the newsletter for the full event
announcement. We may have Royal Presence (Their Highnesses). Richard is running heavy weapons; Alexander is running
rapier and asked Thomasina to handle lists. We are open to doing a lunch box
auction and white elephant (plunder-and-salvage) sale if anyone wants to
volunteer. Aran suggested a Gatorade and water donation-only booth as a
fundraiser. We will bring the Shire pavilion for needed shade. Aran offered the
Bronco if he can’t attend the event.
Meeting finished: 8:07 p.m.
